Sudsy Saturday : Kuka & Battle Road Brew

To help ring in summer, we’ll being pouring some brews from two good breweries. Here’s a little info about them :
In native Andean language, Aymaran, “kuka,” means “food for workers and travelers,” a reference to the bounty provided by gods. It was used to refer to the Coca plant and how its leaves played a major role in religious and social ceremonies of Andean indigenous civilizations. Maca is a main source of food and one of the very few plants that can be cultivated in the harsh climate of the Andes. And for thousands of years, Maca has provided the natives with the means to survive for generations. To the natives, Maca provides the quintessential reason to celebrate Pachamama’s (Mother Earth’s) bountiful gifts.
Imagine a place where ancient knowledge meets modern concepts, where tradition meets the distinct, a place where two elements fuse as one, a place so exhilarating it escapes the imagination. At Andean Brewing Company – KUKA – our mission is to unite ancient Andean ingredients with our premium hand-crafted beers; while respecting the traditions of antiquity. We search the world looking for super plants that can be brewed for their unique characteristics.
Jeremy Cross and Scott Houghton have worked together for well over a decade. What is a bit unusual about their collaboration is that while both have their own opinions, theories and philosophies regarding beer and the making of beer, there is a nearly complete lack of egotism or conflict when crafting new beers. Rather there is a civil and excited dialogue centered on mutual respect of both the traditions and science of brewing as well as for the skill and experience of the other. This somewhat rare partnership results in the near seamless union of nearly 40 years of combined professional brewing experience being focused on balancing art with science, chaos with orderly process, and innovation with tradition. Our job is to make beers that are pleasing to drink, of the highest quality available and offer you a choice that you can count on when you choose a Battle Road Brewing Company beer.
