Massachusetts Liquor Laws Catching Up with the Times

The Puritans of the original Massachusetts Bay Colony were a strict God-fearing people. In the 17^th century they enacted a set of laws, often referred to as “Blue Laws,” which restricted various activities, both commercial and recreational, on Sundays. Among these laws was the probation of the sale of alcohol on Sundays.

It’s only now in the 21^st century, some four hundred years later, that Massachusetts has finally seen fit to update it’s antiquated blue laws as they relate to alcohol sales. The big shift happened in 2003 when the total ban on Sunday alcohol sales was lifted. Now, ten years later, the state is further liberalizing its liquor laws and allowing liquor stores to open at 10am on Sunday, two hours earlier than previously. As Apps Like Ultra Face Hurdles, CSD Offers Reliable Liquor Delivery

As liquor delivery apps face increasing regulatory hurdles, Colonial Spirits Delivers continues to offer reliable liquor delivery to Boston and beyond. The latest liquor delivery app to have a run-in with a local alcohol regulatory agency is Ultra, a national outfit with a branch in Washington D.C. Just over two weeks ago, the D.C. Alcohol Beverage Control Board suddenly handed Ultra a “cease and desist” order.

In their coverage of the matter, Reason.com wrote:

“Although Ultra partners with a licensed booze purveyor to fulfill orders of wine, beer and spirits and deliver them to D.C households, the board found Ultra was ‘soliciting orders for sale’ and processing customer payments, necessitating a license. The board’s reasoning was laid out in a March advisory opinion rendered for another start-up, BeerRightNow.com.”

Red Sox Ticket Giveaway!

We were all thrilled by the Boston Red Sox’ World Series win last year, but so far 2014 has been a different story. The Olde Towne Team is off to a slow start this year, but the good news is there is a lot of baseball left to play.

In fact, toward the end of May and in the beginning of June, the Sox put together a nice little run and seem to be beyond their early season troubles. In this spirit, Colonial Spirits Delivers is sponsoring a ticket giveaway in the month of June.
