Willett Bourbon – Special Colonial Spirits Barrel

At long last a very special and very limited Bourbon has arrived! In May of 2013 Colonial Spirits received samples from several different barrels at the Willett distillery.  After tasting each sample with customers there was an obvious outlier in the group… a particularly rich and woody 10yr old bourbon.  We ordered the entire barrel to be bottled exclusively for Colonial Spirits.  Demand for Willett bourbons left the small distillery struggling to keep up and they discontinued the barrel program, needing everything they could get to keep up with production.  We were quite fortunate to be the last store to receive such a special allocation of bourbon.  While the folks at Willett worked to keep up with demand our prized barrel got another year of aging.

While supplies last this incredible bourbon will be available for $99.99 – this flavorful offering brings oak, honey and leather together with a balanced, dry, lingering finish.  The richness and sweet warmth are akin to the profile of the rarest and most sought after label in the bourbon world…

America’s Oldest and most popular brewery has finally expanded distribution into our great Commonwealth! Established in 1829, Yuengling has represented Lager brewing in the United States for almost 2 centuries.  If you haven’t yet tried this great American beer, now is the time.  Crisp, clean and easy drinking describe a cold Yuengling Lager, so beloved by its home town that one must simply request, “Lager, please” to order this brew.

Death’s Door Craft Spirits – Presented by founder Brian Ellison

If you are at all interested in craft spirits, this is a tasting you shouldn’t miss.  Brian Ellison, creator of Death’s Door Spirits (named after a water passage by Washington Island, WI) is showing his craft and creations and telling the story behind it.  Brian’s stories and experiences are unique and contribute to a line of exceptional products.  He is making a special trip to visit Colonial Spirits and spend several hours showing his gin, vodka and white whiskey to our customers along with a little insight into the world of craft distilling.

November is a special month in New England, bringing forth imagery and tradition from the days when our great country was just beginning.  It all leads up to a big day of celebrating American tradition with a great feast and gratitude for what we enjoy in life.

I enjoy Bourbon – a distinctive product of the United States (said Congress in 1964) – and would like to encourage anyone interested in whiskey to explore this traditional spirit as you take time to relax and enjoy the Thanksgiving season.

Discussions about pairing wine with food are quite familiar around Colonial Spirits with a trio of serious wine enthusiasts and many more who like to cook on staff.  It is also one of our most common questions from customers.  As well, it is not uncommon to confer about beer pairings as more people seem to be finding an interest in that tradition.  For as much time as I spend chatting with folks about whisk(e)y, talk of aligning it with a meal is rare.
